United States women's water polo has enjoyed much success on the international front for the past several years. Winners of the silver medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the first at which female water polo was accepted as a medal sport, the Americans are reigning world champions in the sport going into the Beijing Games.

Currently, the American women find themselves ranked number one in the world having gone undefeated in their last 36 international matches. Will this be a plus for them as they enter the Olympic year? They face formidable competition at the upcoming Olympics from such powers as Australia, Russia and Hungry who are waiting in the wings hoping to dash American dreams of gold.
